The Silence- a deaf teenager struggles to adjust to the hearing world

The Silence is a new four part drama which tells the story of Amelia, a deaf teenager who is struggling to adjust to the hearing world after being fitted with a cochlear implant.

Having fled her over protective parents to spend some time living with her laid back uncle Jim and aunt Maggie, Amelia (played by Deaf newcomer Genevieve Barr) suddenly finds herself the terrified sole witness to the murder of a policewoman – a case to which her uncle is assigned.

Once it gets going, the tension builds well in this first episode, as Amelia recognises another police officer as the culprit and Jim has to protect his niece from his own colleagues….

This is on BBC 1 9pm starting today Mon 12th July
