Deaf people now have access to SMS 999 services

For the first time ever there is a national emergency services hotline available for Deaf and hard of hearing people using SMS

This is a national pilot and people need to register for the service first in advance of any real emergency.

There are 2 ways of registering for this service:

1. Through the website at www.emergencysms.org.uk where there are BSL information clips or

2. From your mobile handset by sending the word REGISTER to 999. You will receive a couple of messages back explanining the terms and conditions. Simply text ACCEPT to 999 to be registered. The phone is registered, not you, so if you change your phone you will need to register again.
